It’s Time to get Your Head (and Hardware) in the Cloud

September 28, 2021

There are three certainties in life: death, taxes, and hard drive crashes.

If your systems are structured on hardware, you are setting your organization up for potential failure. Hard drives crash and grow obsolete quickly. Replacing hardware to stay up to date with the latest advancements is costly.

The availability of cloud computing has rendered hardware unnecessary and a total time waste. The Cloud is elastic. You don’t have to deal with messes. There’s no deploying hardware—dealing with wiring and replacing. The days of IT teams working a multitude of hours outside of normal business hours to deploy updated equipment are over, so are the days of the complicated and chaotic IT closet or room.

What is the Cloud?

The Cloud, or a Cloud (because there are many), is a vast network of remote servers in data centers around the globe which are hooked together and meant to operate as a single ecosystem. Essentially, this means that a lot of the hardware that currently makes up your IT infrastructure can be replaced with services, processes, and orchestration/operations software provided by cloud vendors. For example, let’s say you need a server to run a bunch of web sites. Rather than buying physical servers, you will be provisioning a virtual machine through a cloud provider such as Microsoft Azure or Amazon AWS.

Getting Started

The first thing to do is make sense of your chaos—develop a plan to migrate and determine your priorities. Once you’ve created a plan, it’s time to find a cloud service.

While there are numerous options on the market, we primarily work with Microsoft Azure. Azure can meet a wide variety of needs, from bot services to machine learning and much more, and they do a great job of keeping up with new technologies and making them available to customers. Existing services are continually updated.

Migrating to the Cloud is a big step in the right direction for any organization. The technology team at MarksNelson can help every step of the way—from a technology evaluation to migration and documentation. Contact us today to learn more.
